photo shoot images

For my model photo shoot I first had to plan out what I wanted to do. To do this I had to think through what wanted from the images, and then think about how I would get them. In order for me to get the images I wanted, I tested a few different poses and camera angles, to make sure everything was covered. I did this for both models, for the best Varity. To achieve the images above, I made sure to have a clear background, and a medium shot on the artists, this allowed me to get the best images to suit the magazine, I also had to plan the clothing and make up, which I decided to keep calm and casual to suit the genre, so I uses jeans and hoody jumpers for both models. I went against using a tripod, to get more varieties in heights and angles of shots quicker and without a lot of fuss.

Alex Tyler has been one of the top artists of the last decade. Now feeling as though he doesn’t have many years left in his career, he wants to go out with a bang, and he believes his new album ‘letting go’ does just that.  I met with him backstage after his latest concert in Japan, and he seemed very  eager to get a lot of stuff out. When asked on his feelings on past success and events he had many opinions and matters to discuss. “I have so many memories from the past 12 years of my career, some good, and some I’m sad to say ever involved me at all, but all have led to man I am now, so why would I want to re-do any of it?” I also wanted to know his views on what was his proudest moment and why. “For me, my proudest moment was when I released my very first album, because it was the moment I could truly say I was a musician.” He went on to say how proud he is to be a musician, and how “honourable” he feels to have such great fans. When he went on about his past he seemed keen to get out his feelings on the abuse he gained after he left ex-girlfriend Ariana Lavigne. He stated that “they only said what they said because they didn’t want the relationship to end. I did nothing bad towards her, and we are still good friends”.                                                              He feels  it’s times have changed since he entered the business, but wanted to “stay true” to his music. He would change it just because everyone else entered the business, but wanted to “stay true” to his music and wouldn’t change it just because everyone else did, but he said in this album “it felt right to experiment. As much as he wanted to stick with his music, If this is to be my last I want to have at least tried something different”. This is Alex’s sixth album, but he feels this one is the best yet. The album is titled Letting go as it represents his feelings towards leaving the music industry, he said “when I was thinking of a name, I thought of how sad I was, and how I didn’t want to let go, then it came to me”. The album is due to be realised 4th February. The songs as expected is very personal, but it also said to have a ”energetic” feel as he didn’t want the album to be a “sob story”. Songs such as ‘Here’s to Us’ and ‘Off Our Rockers’  were written with the intention of taking everyone back to a time when “nothing mattered and you lived the day just for today”. On the other hand , Alex's song’s ’One Day to Late’ is very emotional and goes back to times he lost those close, and how he wished to spend one more day with them. For me I was most touched by his song ‘Yours Truly’ as it is a song written about his wife Lucy, and how “their really is someone out their for everyone” I could see a tear falling from eye when how told about his tough time writing this song, as it brought back so many “emotional memories. “We have seen many relationships within the music industry but few can match the scale of publicity, than Alex's, in the last ten years we saw the relationship that gripped the nation with fellow British artist Ariana Lavigne, fans saw that they were great couple and even now when I spoke to Alex, he still speaks of her with loving words. Of course some of these relationships were merely rumours. Alex feels they were “simply stories to fill the headlines.” But of course the relationship that began three years ago  with Lucy Wilson, has now turned into something much greater. when I asked about his feelings on his proposal, he said that:  “ It felt right, and that’s all that matters” Now a married couple, with a baby girl on the way, I wanted to get idea what he felt knowing he is to be a father. “I can’t wait to be a father, and I can’t wait to begin the next chapter in my life. When I heard the news I was both scared and excited, but I know I wanted a child one day so why not now. that is why I wanted to end my career now, so I don’t have to juggle work and my family”. As he is now leaving the music business, I was interested to know what he planned to do after he retired. He didn’t seem to sure, but he know  he wouldn’t leave music entirely. He “promised” many artists to produce for them, and he doesn't want to let them down. So even though he didn’t conform anything, I believe up and about  in the world of music  before you know it.

representation

In this magazine cover we get the impression that Lily
Alan is very bold and boarder pushing as she is not only surrounded by big cats which imply verbosity, she is also revealing the top half of her body, this mixed with the dark colours of the rest of her costume suggests that she is hiding something that will be revealed inside the magazine as her body is faced away towards the inner pages of the magazine. Her pose is brings the reader’s attention on her body, which as his showing a lot of skin implies she is a risk taker, and the props joined with the description ‘sexy beast’ implies she is a predator and is fair from boring. This entices us to read on. She is showing little expression on her face but is still making eye contact with the readers, this makes it hard for us to figure her out, and will make us read her article to find out way she is appearing on the magazine the way she is.

From this cover we get the idea that M Shadows is rebellious and a rule breaker, we get this impression from his tattoos, backwards cap and gothic looking T-shirt. The dark colours suggest he goes against the rules and he is more on an individual. His pose is very active and controlling as he is making contact (under the sunglasses) and is pointing towards the reader. This implies he is very active and possibly aggressive with the mix of the tattoos and dark sunglasses. Also the use of sunglasses means we can’t see his eyes suggesting he not showing all of himself, and maybe that he has something to hide. The prop of the microphone suggests he is all about the music and that he enjoys singing and preforming. The fact he is singing/shouting at the reader pulls us into the article and shows his character as a bold and loud person
from this magazine cover we get the image of Eminem being serious and tough as is the cover he isn't smiling and is staring at the camera with a very stern expression. The clothinig also shows you his muscles also suggest his is tough and that he lives by his own rules. he is also wearing dark clothing adn the mix of this and is facial expressions suggests he has something to hide and that he isn't here to joke around. the cross neckless contrdicts this however, as it suggests a nicer more religous side to him. the light is a lot bright arund his upper body implyng he isn't as dark and mysterious as his appearence suggests, and the lack of clothing suggests he has no secrets as he is showing off his skin. His pose and the mediam shot shows he is informal which supports his rebel appearence.

Evaluation

I think the material used for my magazine is suitable for my target audience as the subjects relate to school life, subjects and interests which is ideal for a sixth form magazine. The model is a sixth form student, so the readers can relate to the front cover, and will we enticed to read on. The front cover and content page also relate t the schools reward system, which is a subject that will interest student readers as the will want to read about they can win.

I feel the layout of my magazine keeps to generic conventions, as the colour scheme stays the same throughout, and the sub titles and text to not obstruct the model. I have also made the masthead standout against the rest of the cover so the attention isn’t taken away from it. I have also kept the barcode price and date in conventional areas where there are not interrupting any of the sub headings or the model

I think that I could have used a wider variety of fonts and texts as I stuck to a simple Varity in my magazine and didn’t experiment with other fonts, I think if had done this my magazine would have looked better and appealed to more people through this change. But I still feel that the magazine worked well with the fonts I used as they not to different from one another and they look sensible, bold and they stand out, such as the ideal student would be.

The language used in my magazine is appropriate because it talks on a level that students will find readable and interesting. There isn’t any slang and so forth but the language doesn’t talk done to them, it gets the messages and facts across with boring them or making them feel uninvolved with the topics of the magazine.

I used many different IT skills and systems to get my magazine the way it is now. The magazine was constructed on publisher were I used tools such cropping resizing and using PowerPoint I cut backgrounds on the model picture to allowing to fit. These allowed me to make the images and text fit perfectly in to the magazine. I also used a website called dafont to make more specialised fonts. This meant I could get more conventional text for the masthead, sub heading and text. I also used colour variation to change the text to blue down to white. These colours connote a calm and relaxed magazine as would a student be if they were revising.

I have designed the text to make it readable but not boring for a teenage pupil, this will help illustrate a school magazine that will be readable and enjoyable for students. I also show this message through the use of a sixth form model on the front cover, to catch their eye by using something they are familiar too. The subjects of vivo’s and gossip about teachers will intrigue them to read past the cover. However I think this could be improved with better varieties of text.

I would have liked to have used more of my own images for the magazine, particularly for my content page, I feel it would have allowed my magazine to connect with the pupils more. But I think I did well with the photos currently used, for example my model on the front cover was placed in the pose he is to translate a positive and hard working student. This is crucial for a school magazine as it makes the school look good.

I made sure the photos and texts not merge together and obstruct the image to make sure the magazine looks professional. I have resized and cropped the image of the model to keep him at medium close up to get the best image possible of him. I have seized the mast head to standout but not so large it looks up surd. I have also kept the ratio between the masthead and the subtitles obvious, so they don’t override each other. I have also made the smaller text clearly standout against the background, meaning the background is coloured to make the text standout. I have also used images with coloured background so that when text is written over it, it is easy to see and read.

Overall I am happy with the magazine cover and contents page that I have created; I feel they connote a positive and calm magazine to sixth formers. I think the colour schemes, content, imagery and style of my magazine will create a good school magazine. I think it could have been improved through the use of more personal imagery and a wider variety of texts and structure. I also think with more time to learn the tools I used, I think I could have improved the quality of the image and the final touches to the layering and text, but in all I believe may magazine will make a good magazine
