looking back on my preliminary task, what do I think I have learn't in the progression from it to full product?

Understanding of representation
I think I have made considerable progress from my collage magazine. I think I understand a lot more about the importance's of representation I have done  lot more focusing on making my model look more like my target audience. I did this my the use of the clothing facial expression and hair, I think I have shown a better representation of the model using these from the first magazine, and I think my newer music magazine has shown that throw the imagery and mise-en-scene .
Understanding of convention
I have learnt a lot more about the conventions of a music magazine. For example I have learnt more abut the importance of  making the main article of the magazine stand out against the rest of the content on the front page. In my prelim I had a number of articles on the front page, but none of them appearing as the most important. With my new front cover It is clear that Alex Tyler is the main article  and it is clear that the model in the background is Alex Tyler, by the way the text is over his chest, and the way he is the standout model on the page
Layout structure
I have changed my layout structure  a lot  as my first magazine didn’t show a very interesting and exciting image, I don’t think readers would want to read the magazine from this cover. For my music magazine front cover I worked hard on making my magazine look interesting. I did this throw the amount of content shown. The colours text sizing and placing of the content and imagery etc. I think this has been helped by ability to think over the image I am trying to show before making it.
Editing skills
I have used  a much wider range of skills, including blurring, over laying texts, and the magic wand tool, which I used on all my text in my music magazine. I think I have also built up my skills on things like cutting my image. This mixed with the blurring has really helped increase the quality of my images. I have also taken to using this on my text the appear clearer when over and image. I also had better ideas about what editing tools worked better for certain jobs. Such as the magic wand tool working better for text then images, as it is a lot easier for the tool to decipher text then images in terms of what should be cut.
Understanding of purpose
I think I have learnt lot about the purpose in terms of what the magazine pages should individually show and represent. I think I understand what is the most important thing for a magazine to show. I understand how important it
Is to make the magazine standout out at first glance. With my first magazine I think it clearly shows that it is a school magazine, but I don’t think its looks would encourage a reader to want the magazine as much as its competition. But with the music magazine I think not only does the purpose of the magazine come across clearer, But think it makes people want the read, making them want to have a second look, which one of the most important parts of its purpose.
Communicating genre to target audience
I think the genre of my magazine is fairly clear when some one sees the magazine, I think it is shown throw the appearance  of my model, and the colour scheme and by the name of the magazine. These are skills that I have built on since my first magazine. I think I have done a better job  of showing the genre (in case of the school magazine the fact is a sixth form magazine) I think the representation of the model shows the genre better. I think My colour scheme shows the type of magazine it is much quicker and clearer, as the colours used connate a message more relatable to the genre. And the name of the magazine is both relatable to music and interesting, making people want to pick up the magazine.
Use of mise en scene
I think my use of mise-en-scene as gotten better from my collage magazine, as in that magazine I showed a relatable model on the front cover throw the use of mise-en-scene. But in my music magazine I have shown a pop rock musician throw the long hair, the youthful clothing, and the laid back body language. I think the body was my weak point in the first magazine, and it still isn't my strongest But think I have shown much better body language in terms of suiting the intended market, and enticing the reader to pick up the magazine instead of walking on.
Font choices
For my front cover I used manly  American captain font. I use this font as it is very bold and  modern, for this reason I think it works well for my magazine as it is eye catching and stands out to the reader. I used this font choice for the masthead because I think it worked well with the mast head,  and I used a similar style of font for my mast head for my collage magazine, and I liked the effect it had, also as the text is all in capitals it makes it more striking to see. In  order to improve it I got rid of the slant and went for a shortened title so I could increase the size to make it stand out more in comparison. I used chunk five ex font for the text of the sub headings as it didn’t need to stand out in the same way and didn’t need to be in capitals, and doesn’t draw any attention away from the headings above them.
Framing
I think I have got better with framing, and getting the right photos and showing them in the right way. I think that in the first magazine my images were good but seemed a little lost in the page. With the music magazine I worked a lot harder on trying to get the images to fit in with the page. To do this I took a range of photos (unlike what I did with the first magazine) so I had range to choose from when I made the magazine and had some to fall back on if something didn’t go right, that is how I got the results I did.

Understanding representation
I think I have shown better representation throw the content shown. In my music magazine I stuck to content that people who like this genre of magazine want to see on the contents page, and what interests at a moments glance. In the collage magazine I used photos that were not of models nut objects. This can bring across a boring and an unoriginal image of the magazine, but if I showed images of the artist (in the case of a music magazine) it shows a more personal interview.
Understanding convention
I think I have shown much better understanding of convention in my music magazine content page. I have shown much more exciting  font choices that fit the convention content page, and I think my images and the way they are shown are much more normal to a magazine those in my original. I think the nature of me showing people related to the contents shows that I gained a much better understanding of what a content page should look like. I think I have built up a better knowledge of what colours and techniques should be used,, as is made clear by the way I have coloured in the two backgrounds.
Layout structure
My layout structure has not changed dramatically, the masthead is placed very similarly , the features layout is similar. And I have filled the spaces similarly. This is because layout was one of the conventions of a magazine I thought I did well so I wanted to keep it for my music magazine. Of course I made some changes, including the size of the features and the fact they are titled showing readers much more obviously what each feature was about. I also used subscribe features at the bottom of page so it was out of the way of the important features. One big feature I needed to but in was a reference to the main feature. And to do this I made it larger and  placed the reference to it over the top of it to show direct references.
Editing skills
The main piece of editing that I did was cutting the text wit the magic tool, Because their was so much text involved this took a long time to do but I have improve my ability since then so I have learnt much more efficient. This is how I was able to use a lot more dafont text, because I was able to get the job done quicker.
Understanding purpose
I think  had a good understanding of the content page purpose. I understood that it had to show and interest the reader into wanting to read the articles shown in the magazine. I feel my understanding as grown since as I know understand the finer details such as the main article of front page having a large section of the page to show it’s
Importance and get the most attention. I also understand a little more about certain features that should appear in the magazine. E.g. for the music magazine a subscribe feature. Of course the main thing that I understood clearer is importance of interesting the reader I thin I have made it more interesting throw the simple nature of the models of the article being shown and  the colour scheme presenting the information, instead of hiding it.
Communicating to target audience
I think I have adapted my communication skills in music content page throw the colour scheme and features (showing features they would care about musically) I think I have improved on this since the first magazine  because the pop rock genre is a much closer market for me to appeal too. I think I have shown feature that appeal to me as I am part of the target audience I’m trying to appeal to as well, I think this has helped me communicate a much more personal and upbeat message about the content of the magazine which is key for the genre.
Use of mise-en-scene
The nature of me continuing the mise-en-scene already shows my improvement. With this content page I wanted to continue the characteristics of the character and the way he appeared to the audience. I did this by having him in the same clothing but with a different body and facial expression to relate to more personal message shown about him. I have used a lot of red in the text and other features to show the exciting features of the genre of music.
Font choices
I used the fonts I used because I thought they were relaxing, easy to read and looks bold and eye catching. I think I have used much more appropriate text then in my first magazine as I think it represents the genre better and it makes more of an impression  to the reader. I continued using American captain for my masthead, but most else was chunk five ex because it was still a bold and exciting font, but I no longer needed it to be in all capitals as It doesn’t to be eye-catching in the same way.
Framing
For the model photo I needed the image to be large to show I’s importance and so that It couldn’t be missed. To do this I placed opposite to features column so It was separate and would be easy to point out. I have improve on my framing from the way I have shown images and how I have made standout. Because in the first content page the images appear a little bit randomly framed, but I’d like to think I have shown a little more purpose
